And there it was at last. The thing I desired above all else! Suddenly I felt the atmosphere seemed to be a bit strange. Then I saw a creature appeared in front of me. At first it was like a phantom, but soon it became more and more solid. As I still did not know what has happened, ‘Did you remember the pact we’ve made three years ago?’ It was the phantom.
My blood seems to be frozen. ‘Err…I…I…remember, Lord Robert…’
‘That’s good,’ he smirked, body was appearing. ‘After I’ve given you the thing you want, then you should give me the thing that I want…’
My body was trembling and my heart drummed crazily as if it would come out. ‘My Lord… you mean…’
‘I mean you should give your SOUL to me of course!!!’
‘NO!!!!!!!!’
‘Shut up!!!’ snapped Lord Robert, with his index finger pointing at me. ‘Don’t you tell me that you’ve already forgotten the pact! You’d promised me that you will give me your soul to me after you’ve got The Red Moon!!!’
Remaining silence, my body was still trembling with fear and I started to move backward. I bumped against the table behind me and this made the ruby that was cut in cabochon dropped onto the floor. Quickly Lord Robert grabbed the ruby on the floor and gave a nasty grin to me. ‘Now The Red Moon is mine!!!’ He laughed in triumph.
I flew into a rage and I rushed to Lord Robert and snatched the ruby from his hand. ‘What are you doing?’ he shouted.
‘That ruby is MINE!!!’ I screeched. ‘Why do I want to become your servant? It’s only because I want to get back The Red Moon!!! Do you know… do you know The Red Moon is the most expensive ruby in the world? If I get it, my wish will be come true! And don’t forget I still have to live with Andy! He’s waiting for me to get it back!’ I found that my body was wobbling with fury as my heart was filled with anger.
‘That’s going too far!!!!’ roared Lord Robert, ‘don’t you dare contradict your master, you nasty little brat!’ He grabbed my blouse’s collar and held me up into the air. ‘It’s no good to contradict me. Sabrina Addison…’ he boomed, and suddenly he threw me onto the floor. This made my head very painful and quickly I fell into unconsciousness.
When I was awake, the room was empty and Lord Robert was gone. Certainly, The Red Moon was gone, too. It drove me to despair and I felt the pearly tears were running down my cheek. I thought of my father, and his wish that could not be come true by himself forever. ‘I’m terribly sorry, father,’ I murmured, ‘Sabrina cannot fulfil your last wish… please forgive me…’ Soon I cried my heart out and collapsed onto the floor. Moreover, I thought of my experiences in the past.
My father was a famous connoisseur of jewels and The Red Moon is his favourite. It is because my father purchased it in a very high price five years ago. However, the ruby was stolen a week after he acquired it. My father was distressed to death because of this incident. On the day he passed away, my mother told me that he wanted me to find it back as if it was the heirloom of Addison’s family.
From that day onwards, I started to find out the whereabouts of The Red Moon but it was like carrying coals to New Castle—I still could not have an idea of the whereabouts of it. However, there was a favourable turn. One night on three years ago, I had a dream. At that time, I dreamt about I was standing in a dark place and the things I can see only the sparkling lights all around me. It seems that I was in the universe. Suddenly I heard a deep voice.
‘Finally we meet each other, Sabrina Addison,’ I was shocked. ‘Who are you? How come you know my name?’
The voice continued, ‘I am the one who can passes through the past, present and future. Of course I know who you are and what you are thinking…’
‘Can you tell me your name? And can you show your face?’
There was a silence, and then I saw a shadow-like being appeared in front of me. It was in a shape of human with long hair and two horns on his head. After a while, I could see his face clearly. His is very handsome and his eyes were dark purple. When he was staring at me, I was nervous and my face was like burning because of his handsomeness.
‘I’m Lord Robert, the Devil of Devils,’ he began, ‘you want to know where The Red Moon is, right? I can help you!’
I was stunned when I heard his words. ‘Really?’
‘But can you promise to obey me all the time?’
‘Sure! I will do anything for you if you can help me get The Red Moon back!’ My voice was in emotion.
‘That’s good. Now let’s have a pact.’ Lord Robert said, a smile was on his face. Afterwards, he said word by word, ’ I’ll help you to get back The Red Moon. But after you get it back, I’ll take your soul and you will become the servant of mine.’
I was silent with consternation, feeling cold on my back. I hesitated for a long while but at last I muttered, ‘OK…it’s a deal.’
We shook hands together and Lord Robert gave a firm clasp on my hand. His fingernail had made a cut between my thumb and my index finger and I saw blood came out from the cut. I gave a yelp and I awoke. After pulling myself together, I sat up and thought about my dream. Later, I felt pain on my right hand and I had found that there was a cut on it, still oozing blood. In addition, the location of the cut was just the same as the one in my dream! That meant it was not a dream at all! I shivered with fear and started to cry.
Although the wound was here since I had that dream, it was still painful. Moreover, no one knows this unpleasant incident except Andy. When I told him the experience, ‘Do you know the cost of working for a devil is very great?’ He said with a slight anger.
‘I know, but it’s the only way…’
Andy sighed, ‘I won’t interfere you, but I’m sure that you will regret to work for a devil.’ In fact, I was regret for making such a pact with Lord Robert, but there was no way to choose at that time. If the time can flash back, I will not make pacts with a devil in order to get back a ruby, though it is the most expensive ruby in the world and my father’s favourite. However, can time flash back?
When I thought about this, I gave a deep sigh and my eyes filled with tears of regret. Suddenly the door opened and it was Andy. He was shocked when he saw my tear-strained face. ‘What’s happened, Sabrina?’
I said nothing but buried my face into my hands and cried bitterly. Quickly Andy held me in his arms. ‘Don’ t be like that, that’s OK…’
‘I can’t believe this is happening!!!’ I whimpered. ‘If it’d been known that things would turn out this way, I would not make the pact with Lord Robert!!!’
‘It is no use to regret,’ Andy whispered, ‘Now the most urgent thing we should do is to get The Red Moon back from Lord Robert!’
Instantly I stopped crying and looked at him. ‘But how do we find him?’
‘Are you looking for me, traitor?’
I was astonished and turned back. It was Lord Robert and he was holding The Red Moon in his hand.
‘GIVE ME BACK THE RUBY!!!’ I barked hysterically.
‘Don’t lose your head, Sabrina!’ Andy shouted, grabbing my arm. ‘You are Lord Robert, right? Why do you want to own this ruby?’
‘None of your business!!!!’ Lord Robert snapped. ‘I have my reason to own it and no one have the right to stop me!’
‘But how come you treat this girl like that? ’
‘Humph! I use her as a tool to let me get The Red Moon!’ Lord Robert sneered. ‘I’ve been looked for it for a thousand years, but out of my mind, I can get it so easily!’
‘If you’re not cooperate with me,’ Andy bellowed, ‘then take this!’ He removed his necklace from his neck and threw it at Lord Robert.
‘Ouch! A cross! How come…’ This made the ruby dropped onto the floor and Lord Robert was turned into a puff of smoke.
After a while, Andy picked up the ruby and his necklace and said, ‘Sabrina! The devil has gone!’ After a pause, he continued, ‘It seems that this ruby was adhered with demons. Now I’ve driven Lord Robert away with my cross, and later we will go to meet Father Lawrence. He will remove the demons inside the ruby and Lord Robert won’t come and find you anymore!’
I knew that it was Father Lawrence’s idea. He and Andy are good friends. Andy wanted to help me, so he sought advices from Father Lawrence. It is obvious that he taught Andy to throw a cross at a devil in order to make it vanish. When I was in deep thought, I’ve found that my wound on my right hand is not painful anymore. I heard Andy was calling me, so I stood up and left the room with him.
